What Is Airtel’s Telco-Grade Cloud?

Airtel’s Telco-Grade Cloud is a fully sovereign, regulated, and enterprise-grade cloud platform, designed to meet strict standards for data localization, regulatory compliance, and reliability.

Already powering all internal Airtel applications, this cloud platform has been developed from the ground up based on Airtel’s extensive experience managing one of India’s largest private cloud infrastructures. It is now being productized and made available for external enterprise customers across India.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Sovereign Infrastructure: Fully compliant with Indian data residency and security regulations.
  • Built for Telcos, Ready for Enterprise: Developed using Airtel’s learnings from telco-scale operations.
  • Cost-Efficient: Optimised for total cost of ownership, ideal for enterprises seeking scalable and predictable pricing.
  • Highly Reliable: Designed to offer Telco-Grade uptime and failover capabilities.
  • End-to-End Ecosystem: Integrates seamlessly with Airtel’s broader enterprise offerings including Cybersecurity, IoT, CPaaS, and Managed Services.

“This is a cloud on which every one of our applications runs. It’s fully sovereign, regulated, and built with the best technology,” said Gopal Vittal.

Enterprise-Focused Strategy

According to Airtel, enterprise customers are no longer looking for standalone products. They want integrated digital solutions, and Airtel believes it is well-positioned to address this need with its comprehensive suite of offerings.

Over the past few months, Airtel Business has been conducting roundtables across India to promote the new platform and gather feedback from prospective clients. The company believes the timing is right to bring this platform to market, especially as demand for secure and local cloud solutions surges.

Airtel’s Investment in Cloud and B2B Growth

To support this cloud push, Airtel has increased capital expenditure (capex) in Q4 FY2025, focusing heavily on:

  • Cloud infrastructure
  • Data center expansion
  • Fiber network enhancements

Vittal confirmed that this increased capex is strategic and temporary, and will normalize starting FY2026.

“We stepped up our capex on areas like Cloud, data centers, and some additional fiber cables,” he said. “But going forward, capex will return to normal levels.”

Airtel Business Growth Trajectory

Airtel Business is one of the fastest-growing verticals under the Bharti Airtel umbrella, currently clocking a 25–30% growth rate in digital services. The company aims to become a one-stop solution provider for enterprises looking to modernize their operations, especially in sectors like BFSI, manufacturing, IT, and public sector.

This cloud launch is a key milestone in Airtel’s long-term plan to compete with global hyperscalers like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud, particularly for India-centric workloads.

Looking Ahead: Airtel x Google Cloud Partnership

The Telco-Grade Cloud also complements Airtel’s partnership with Google Cloud, which is focused on generative AI, multi-cloud adoption, and hybrid infrastructure. This dual approach allows Airtel to offer both global cloud flexibility and local cloud sovereignty, giving enterprise customers more control over how and where their data is stored and processed.
